Silicone Rubber Pads
ITW Trans Tech offers a wide range of the highest quality silicone rubber pads, designed specifically for industrial pad printing applications. Since each product decoration is unique, there are hundreds different shapes and sizes from which to choose. All are available in five levels of durometer hardness (see below) and in two kinds of silicone rubber: SprintPad™ and DuraThon™.

Durometer (Hardness)
Printing pads are produced in a range of hardness, measured in terms of durometer "shore". The pad back is then marked or painted in a coded color. From softest to hardest: 30 to 35 shore (blue back); 40 to 45 shore (red back); 50 to 55 shore (green back); 60 to 65 shore (white back); and 70 to 75 shore (black back).

Custom Pad Design and Production
Pads can also be custom-designed and produced for unusual projects upon request. Ask for our complete catalog of the various standard silicone pads for your future reference.

Rotary Pads
Although most silicone pads are used for transfering images from flat cliché plates, there are also special rotary pads which are used to transfer images from rotary drum clichés. These are specified for high-speed, automated systems in which parts, usually round or cylindrical in shape, are decorated. Rotary pads come in two types of silicone rubber, depending on the particular needs of an application.

Typically, automated applications of rotary pad printing are medical syringes, range golfballs, and certain automotive components. ITW Trans Tech has successfully built hundreds of rotary systems for OEMs in various industries. For more information about how to apply this technology contact us.

Pad Care & Maintenance
This article contains the most commonly requested information about the care and maintenance of pads.

It may be one of the most important items for your department managers and operators to read. Now that your company has purchased silicone transfer pads from ITW Trans Tech, it is up to you to use them wisely and to their maximum efficiency. Our customers demand that all consumables, including pads, be cost effective. A company can realize significant savings just by following these recommendations.

Unpacking Pads from Shipments
When you receive a shipment of pads from ITW Trans Tech, it is very important to unpack them immediately from the vacuum packaging. Be careful not to cut the pads when unpacking from the box. The silicone will take on a permanent form from the shrink wrap, if the packaging is not removed in a timely manner. If possible, wait 24 hours before using pads.
If any imperfections have shown up on the silicone, within 24 hours after unpacking they should disappear.

Pad Storage
1. Pads should be used during their recommended shelf life. Any pads older than their expiration date should be discarded. This includes pads that have been used. Pads out of expiration date do not print as successfully as newer ones.

2. Rotate your inventory. Use older pads first, then newer ones. This seems to work quite well for printing consistency.

3. Temperature & humidity are also important. ITW Trans Tech recommends an air-conditioned environment with temperatures ranging from 60 to 80 degrees F. with humidity at 30 – 50%.

4. Storage: The best place to store your pads is in a cabinet with doors, away from dust or dirt. It is important not to store them in plastic bags which cause the silicone to sweat. They should be stored with the bases down and with nothing touching the silicone. Anything touching the silicone for an extended period of time can make an imperfection that is permanent. If a flaw is in the printing area, the pad cannot be used successfully. Used pads should be cleaned with pad cleaner and a soft paper towel before storage. This ensures that the surface is clean and ready for the next use.
