![]() In a typical installation on a Carousel 80 pad printing machine, a fourteen-inch diameter, two-position dial indexing table is fitted with two fixtures for a round tape measure. Boosting Output At Minimal Expense Two-Position Dial Turns Up Productivity WHEN the difference between a profitable operation and a losing one may be a few percentage points, even a slight increase in productivity can make a big difference at the bottom line. And if that boost can double the output, as with the addition of a two-position dial indexer, the results are dramatic. With the widespread use of manual load-and-unload pad printing applications, the rate of production is limited by operator speed. That is: the total time in which the operator can place a blank part into the fixture, activate the print cycle, wait for each color to be applied, and then remove the printed part. ![]() Most single, hand-loaded operations will benefit from the addition of a two-position dial by enabling the operator to run in continuous mode, unloading a completed part from the fixture and reloading while another part is being printed. Plus, the cam-driven dial holds tight tolerances with steady positioning required for printing four-color process artwork or other multicolor images. Even if the workers are performing at their maximum efficiency, they still must wait for the machine to complete its print cycle. This may only waste a few seconds per part, but multiplied by thousands, it begins to nibble away at profits, week after week. The addition of a two-position dial indexing table enables the operator to load and unload during the print cycle, effectively multi-tasking the process to eliminate waiting time and produce a net gain in piece rate. ![]() The larger 24-inch, two-position dial, shown above, can be installed on the Carousel 120 for bigger, multicolor applications. The roomier table diameter also allows a wider range of fixture sizes, all mountable to standard keyways. Vacuum-assisted fixtures may also be used by routing air hoses through the center opening.
