Job Title: Project Manager / Research and Development
Department: Equipment
Reports To: General Manager
Supervises: N/A

Summary:
Lead product and process innovation activities for machine systems and consumable products. Conceptualize research and develop new technologies in relation to improving a machine, multiple station systems, or key components on the systems. Develop innovative product solutions including new products, new forms of products, and/or new ways of offering a product. Develop improvements for existing systems and products. Manage development activities to meet specifications, and time and material budgets, and/or manage the development through an outsourced contractor. Coordinate design reviews and perform acceptance testing. Establish criteria for evaluating performance and reliability of designs. Specify quality of engineered products. Ensure accuracy and completeness of computer models, drawings, and bills of material. Develop costing models and recommended pricing models for all new products. Lead all product implementation programs until all manufacturing processes, metrics, and necessary support equipment are functional and meeting expectations. Support all new products with any necessary training for manufacturing and sales.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Research, conceptualize, and design next generation equipment and processes for product decorating.
2. Develop innovative consumable product solutions to compliment the Trans Tech businesses.
3. Create final specifications and budget for projects. Manage project by developing project timelines and accurately breaking out budget by tasks and materials. Establish manpower requirements to meet time and cost quotes. Prioritize, assign tasks and monitor status during project.
4. Manage projects either in-house or through outsourced contractors to meet time and budget goals.
5. Responsible for finalizing designs, documentation and constructing prototypes. Monitor and report on schedule throughout project by reviewing machined components, long lead-time purchases, etc.
6. Summarize project results and present to management in regularly scheduled project review meetings. Manage technical design, cost and material budgets and schedule deadlines. Recommend process improvements.
7. Manage information flow to and from contractors including blueprints/sketches, parts, product samples, etc.
8. Lead pilot run and/or acceptance testing in-house, run samples and troubleshoot issues.
9. Provide technical information, time estimates, costs, etc. to create accurate quotes to design and build prototypes of components, machines or systems.
10. Specify and recommend components or suppliers.
11. Create and maintain copies and files of computer models and drawings.
12. Provide documentation for use by manufacturing, assembly and service.
13. Transfer information pertaining to newly engineered products to engineering, manufacturing and service department personnel, as needed for service/maintenance.
14. Performs other duties as needed or assigned.

Job Relationships: Works closely with Business Unit Managers, Automation Systems Manager and staff: Engineers, Drafters, Designers, Builders, Process Technicians, Sales, outside vendors, and suppliers.

Physical Requirements: Required to effectively use available business technologies. Regularly required to sit, stand and walk. May be required to occasionally lift up to 30 pounds. Will be required to travel overnight.

Mental Requirements: Frequently/continuously required to advise, analyze, calculate, communicate thoughts clearly and persuasively verbally and in writing, estimate, evaluate technical performance, organize, project planning, prioritize, sell a concept or idea, speak. Continuously required to use judgment and to function independently.

Knowledge/Experience Requirements: A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field is required. Minimum of eight years experience in mechanical engineering concept design and/or development. Three to five years of successful project management meeting or exceeding cost and time estimates. Electrical systems knowledge required including experience with PLCs and electrical schematics. Must be proficient in the use of personal computers for engineering functions, including 2 & 3D engineering drawing software (Autocad preferred). Must be able to communicate effectively with vendors, customers, sales staff, drafters and technicians.
